FRESNO – A woman alleges she and her small dog were attacked by a pit bull while walking on a sidewalk.

Cheryl Canalez filed a complaint on Jan. 31 in the Fresno County Superior Court against Eden Segovia, Mary Segovia, Leonor Segovia, Gerald M. Baker, Nelda Baker and Does 1-10 alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Feb. 1, 2017, she was walking her small dog on Stanford Avenue toward Lansing Avenue when Leonor Segovia's pit bull attacked plaintiff's small pug. The plaintiff alleges she was bitten by the pit bull as she attempted to release her pug and both she and her dog sustained injuries.

The suit states Eden Segovia and Mary Segovia are the dog owner's parents and were responsible for the dog at the time of the incident and the Baker defendants owned the property where the dog resided.

The plaintiff holds Eden Segovia, Mary Segovia, Leonor Segovia, Gerald M. Baker, Nelda Baker and Does 1-10 responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to have the dog restrained and were negligent in failing to post a sign to warn of the dog's presence.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants for compensatory and punitive damages, costs of suit, and further relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Vonn R. Christensen of Christenson Law Firm LLP in Porterville.
