A charging station, exposed wire and electrocution lead to lawsuit against Starbucks

State Court
Fate

SAN FRANCISCO - A Sonoma County man visiting a local Starbucks to get his daily dose of caffeine got a little bit more of a jolt than he asked for after he was electrocuted at the Starbucks on Van Ness Ave. in San Francisco, according to lawsuit documents filed on Feb. 1 in the San Francisco County Superior Court.

Jack Strong visited the Starbucks on April 25, 2019, when he sat down at a table that had an electronic charging station for phones and other devices. The lawsuit says that Strong placed his hand over the charging station to begin charging his phone at the same exact time that his foot touched an exposed live wire.

The plaintiff's complaints include there being no proper cautionary warning or signage to indicate the live wire, a dangerous situation in state of disrepair and failure on the employees' behalf to notice and rectify the live wire.

Strong is suing the coffee corporation for one count of premises liability, one count of negligent hiring, supervision and failure to warn, and one count of negligence. He is seeking general damages, compensation for medical expenses, litigation fees and judgement interest. A jury trial is demanded.

The plaintiff is represented by the Barnes Firm of Oakland.
