San Francisco accused of letting manhole covers become dangerously slippery

State Court
Manhole

SAN FRANCISCO - The City and County of San Francisco, as well as the Pacific Gas and Electric Company, are accused in the San Francisco County Superior Court of negligently allowing a manhole cover to become dangerous.

According to documents filed on March 15, plaintiff Michael Keck of San Rafael was walking down Taylor Street in San Francisco on January 11, 2020. He allegedly stepped onto a PG&E manhole cover that was unknowingly smooth and slick, causing his foot to shoot forward while the other remained on the pavement, forcing the plaintiff into a "splits" position.

The defendants are charged with willful failure to warn, negligence and dangerous condition of public property in violation of San Francisco Public Works Code.

Keck seeks damages for his injuries and loss of wages.
