A California woman has filed a class-action lawsuit against her former employer, alleging a slew of labor law violations that could affect numerous employees. Janae Witherspoon filed the complaint on April 21, 2025, in the Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara, against Ahmadi Homes, Inc., and unnamed defendants Does 1 to 50.

The case centers around allegations that Ahmadi Homes failed to comply with several California labor laws. According to the complaint, Witherspoon and other non-exempt employees were not paid minimum wages or overtime wages for all hours worked. The company is also accused of failing to provide legally required rest and meal periods and not maintaining accurate employment records. "Defendants failed to fully conform their pay practices to the requirements of the law during the relevant statutory periods," the complaint states. Furthermore, Witherspoon alleges that Ahmadi Homes did not reimburse necessary business expenses incurred by employees or furnish accurate itemized wage statements as mandated by law.

Witherspoon's lawsuit seeks restitution for unpaid wages and penalties for each alleged violation. She argues that these actions constitute unfair competition under California's Unfair Competition Law (UCL), which prohibits unlawful business practices. The plaintiff is asking for compensatory damages, statutory penalties, attorney fees, and costs of suit according to various sections of the California Labor Code. Additionally, she requests an order certifying this as a class action so that other affected employees can join in seeking justice.

Representing Witherspoon is Melmed Law Group P.C., with attorneys Jonathan Melmed and Lynsey D. Johnson taking lead roles in the case. The case has been assigned Case Number 25CV464120 and will be overseen by Judge M. Arechiga at the Superior Court of California in Santa Clara County.
