SAN FRANCISCO - A commercial fisherman sued the City and County of San Francisco after he lost most of his gear in the May 2020 Pier 45 Shed C fire.

According to the lawsuit filed on March 23 in the San Francisco County Superior Court, plaintiff Robert Scott Reynolds stored his fishing gear in Pier 45's Shed C. Reynolds says the blaze that destroyed the shed and its contents were a result of the defendants' negligent management of the shed and failure to uphold various fire safety codes, including no functioning fire safety equipment, no regulations on flammable and explosive material and faulty electrical systems.

The fire was further caused by the defendants' negligence in preventing homeless and transient people from taking shelter in the shed, Reynolds said. Investigations following the fire found it to have been caused by a stray ember from the campfire of a homeless person, the suit says.

The defendants are charged with negligence, negligence per se, premises liability, breach of contract and breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing.

Reynolds requests the court determine how much he is entitled to for his destroyed gear and suffering. He is represented by the Law Office of Brooke Halsey of Tiburon.
