REDWOOD CITY - A March 29 San Mateo County Superior Court lawsuit accuses Safeway Inc. of negligence and Unruh Act violations.

The complaint was filed by plaintiff Traci Scott, a Black man who visited the San Mateo Safeway on September 13 2018.

Scott says that while grocery shopping an unidentified cashier approached him and accused him of stealing. Taking offense to the accusation, Scott attempted to proceed to the check out so he could pay for his groceries and leave, but the cashier that had approached him pulled his cart away and ordered him to leave, the suit claims.

Safeway is charged with negligence and violation of the Unruh Civil Rights Act.

Scott is represented by the Law Office of Stanley Goff in his request for damages.
