REDWOOD CITY - The El Camino Inn in Daly City is accused of multiple civil rights violations for after allegedly failing to accommodate disabled people in its online booking information.

The complaint was filed on April 12 in the San Mateo County Superior Court by plaintiff Orlando Garcia. Garcia suffers from cerebral palsy and relies on a wheelchair, walker or cane to ambulate.

According to the complaint, Garcia was scheduling a trip to Daly City and was searching for a hotel with disability accommodations. He accuses the defendant of failing to include critical information about their rooms that were labeled as "accessible," including heights and distances for toilets, showers, beds and sinks.

Garcia says this list of measurements is necessary for a disabled person to independently book and access a hotel room.

El Camino Inn is accused of violating the Unruh Civil Rights Act and the Unfair Competition Law.

The inn is owned by Balboa Hotel LLC.

Each Unruh Civil Rights Act violation is subject to a minimum of $4,000 in civil damages.

Garcia is represented by Russell Handy of the Center for Disability Access.
