San Francisco BART, officers sued for allegedly beating man

Federal Court
Law ga45f41a11 1920

SAN FRANCISCO - William Bolanos filed a federal lawsuit on Nov. 19 in the District of Northern California against the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART), Officer Darnell Bussey and Officer Carlos Dazhan for violation of civil rights.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 12, 2020, Bolanos suffered racial profiling, unlawful seizure and brutality by officers Bussey and Dazhan, even though Bolanos was not a threat to the officers and had not shown signs of violent behavior.

Officers Bussey and Dazhan recklessly confronted, detained and beat Bolanos at the Coliseum BART Station, deprived him of his rights to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures, equal protection of the laws, due process of law, to be free from the use of excessive and/or arbitrary force and to be free from unreasonable punishment, the suit says.

Bolanos was caused to suffer bruising, bleeding, severe traumatization and received treatment for pain in his chest, right wrist, and left hand, the suit says.

Bolanos is represented by Stephanie Baker of Coyle Browne Law.
