In the Superior Court of California, County of San Francisco, Sonny Guevarra has filed a lawsuit against multiple defendants including Charles E. Murphy, M.D., Regents of the University of California dba UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital and UCSF Medical Center at Mount Zion, Monisha Chakravarthy Bhatia, M.D., Amy L. Gamble, R.N., Kimberly Lim Yan, M.D., Jasleen Kahlon, M.D., St. Francis Heights Convalescent Hospital, AHMC Seton Medical Center LLC, and several other individuals.

The case ID is CGC-24-614557 and it was filed on May 10th, 2024. The plaintiff is represented by Koorosh K. Shahrokh from National Choice Lawyers.

The plaintiff, Salvador M. Guevarra, was admitted to USCF Children's Hospital on February 14th, 2023 after suffering a fall at his home.  While at the hospital he underwent a CT scan to check for brain bleeding and a fall risk assessment preformed by a RN.  On they day of his discharge, February 19th, 2023, the plaintiff was found unconscious on the floor of his room.  He had again suffered a fall, striking his head.

Mr. Guevarra was transferred to USCF's ICU and monitored for a week and later transferred to Mount Zion. While at Mount Zion he did not receive any substantial care, only observation.  He was given a catheter which caused a urinary tract infection.  The plaintiff repeatedly complained of discomfort and groin pain although his complaints went unaddressed. He was then transferred to St. Francis Medical Center.

While at SFMC, he was administered blood thinners despite a doctors order not to do so but no other substantial treatments were given.  He was transferred three more times, first to Seton Medical Center, then back to USCF Children's Hospital and finally back to SFMC where he stayed for one last week before being discharged.  While at each hospital he received no substantive care, only observation.

Prior to his initial incident Mr. Guevarra was active and independent but after his health declined after the incident and never returned to his prior baseline.

Sonny Guevarra is both an individual plaintiff and the Successor-in-Interest of Salvador M. Guevarra's estate. He seeks damages for alleged negligence by the healthcare providers which he claims led to Salvador's death.
