Patrick and Nicole Ryan have taken legal action against a group of construction-related entities and individuals, alleging negligence, nuisance, and breach of contract that led to significant property damage. The complaint was filed by the Ryans on April 23, 2025, in the Superior Court of California for San Francisco County against Canyon Construction LLC, Uniacke Electric, Driftwood Builders LLC, Brendan Uniacke, Paul Uniacke, and other unnamed defendants.

The case revolves around a fire that occurred on May 3, 2022, at the Ryans' property located at 2700 43rd Ave., San Francisco. According to the plaintiffs, this fire caused extensive damage to their home and belongings while it was under the care of the defendants. The Ryans claim that starting in August 2021 and reaffirmed in March 2022 through written contracts, these defendants were responsible for performing construction and plumbing work on their property. The plaintiffs argue that the defendants failed to fulfill their duties by not executing their work in a reasonable and non-negligent manner.

In their complaint, Patrick and Nicole Ryan accuse the defendants of various negligent acts such as poor hiring practices for employees and subcontractors, inadequate supervision, insufficient security measures, and failure to monitor the condition of the property adequately. They allege that these lapses directly led to the fire outbreak which severely damaged their property. As a result of this alleged negligence, they are seeking damages amounting to no less than $2 million.

The lawsuit also accuses the defendants of creating a nuisance as defined by Section 3479 of the California Civil Code due to allowing or causing the fire without consent from the Ryans. This has purportedly deprived them of safe use of their property. Additionally, they claim breach of contract based on agreements made with all named defendants obligating them to protect and preserve the property during remodeling work.

The plaintiffs seek special damages according to proof presented at trial along with general damages for loss incurred due to this incident. They also request interest on all damages awarded as well as reimbursement for costs associated with bringing forth this suit.

Representing Patrick Ryan and Nicole Ryan are attorneys Demian I. Oksenendler (State Bar #233416) and Maribel J. Sanchez (State Bar #352287) from Oksenendler Law P.C., located in San Francisco. The case is identified under Case No. CGC-25-624660 in front of an unspecified judge within San Francisco's Superior Court system.
