In a dramatic turn of events, a resident of San Joaquin County has filed a lawsuit against a prestigious university medical center, alleging severe medical malpractice. On May 5, 2025, Lynda Mendoza filed the complaint in the Superior Court of California, County of San Francisco, targeting the University of California Board of Regents and its affiliated UCSF Medical Center along with several individual doctors.

The case revolves around allegations that Mendoza suffered significant physical harm due to negligence during a surgical procedure at UCSF Medical Center on May 10, 2024. According to the complaint, Mendoza sought treatment for her prolapsed pelvic organs and was advised by the defendants to undergo surgery. However, during this procedure, it is alleged that the medical team failed to properly position her on the operating table, resulting in compression nerve damage that left her unable to walk unassisted. "Plaintiff suffered compression nerve damage, with loss of her left leg motor function and nerve tissue injury," states the complaint. The document further claims that another medical provider confirmed Mendoza's condition as consistent with a femoral nerve compression injury due to improper positioning during surgery.

Mendoza accuses Dr. Olga Ramm, Dr. Marcela Maria Toro Bejarano, and Dr. Christian Freeman—all associated with UCSF—of failing to meet professional standards in their care and treatment. The plaintiff asserts that these actions constitute breaches of duty owed by healthcare providers to their patients and directly resulted in her injuries. She seeks compensation for pain and suffering, past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, permanent physical injuries, loss of income, and other damages deemed appropriate by the court.

Represented by attorney Bruce B. Paller from Oxnard-based Law Office of Bruce B Paller, Mendoza is demanding a jury trial to address these grievances. The legal proceedings are under Case No.: CGC-25-625016 in front of judges yet unnamed in this filing.
