SACRAMENTO – A California media company is suing multiple unknown individuals over allegations they copied and distributed its movies online.
Malibu Media LLC filed multiple complaints on Feb. 18 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California, Fresno and Sacramento Divisions against John Doe subscriber assigned IP addresses 98.255.194.107; 73.41.243.169; 73.41.19.65; 67.182.56.20; 71.193.37.58; 71.198.67.140; 98.252.71.18; 71.195.167.79; 67.182.34.116; 98.255.105.148; 67.182.165.59; 71.197.126.47; 98.255.70.3; and 73.220.88.40, citing copyright infringement.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that according to its investigator, Excipio GmbH, the defendants downloaded one or more pieces of digital media files. Excipio GmbH used geolocation technology to determine the owners of the IP addresses reside in the district of these courts, the suit states. Malibu Media holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly downloaded complete copies of plaintiff's works and distributed them to others via BitTorrent file distribution network without authorization.
The plaintiff seeks the following: an order for the defendants to delete and permanently remove all digital files associated with plaintiff's work, award plaintiff legal fees and any other relief this court deems just and proper.
