SAN DIEGO — A paraplegic man is suing San Diego property owners, alleging disability discrimination and failure to uphold Americans with Disabilities Act regulations.
Chris Langer filed a complaint on Oct. 4 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California against Jeannette Stavros and Gregg Alan Inc., alleging they failed to provide full and safe equal access to their facilities.
According to the complaint, in August 2017, Langer, who is confined to a wheelchair, was unable to use the facilities at Chris' Liquor and Deli at 2275 Sunset Cliffs, Blvd., San Diego. The suit says Langer sustained difficulties because there were no accessible and compliant parking spaces marked and reserved for persons with disabilities during his visit.
The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to make reasonable modifications to accommodate all individuals, and failed to remove architectural barriers that prevent people with disabilities from using the property, blatantly violating the ADA.
Langer seeks trial by jury damages of at least $4,000, injunctive relief, attorney fees, litigation expenses and costs of suit. He is represented by attorney Isabel Masanque of Center for Disability Access in San Diego.
