Woman claims being held against her will and sexual assault by Uber driver

SAN FRANCISCO -- A woman is suing Uber after claiming to be held against her will and sexually assaulted by an Uber driver.

Jane Doe, through her counsel Altair Law LLP, filed a complaint on April 29 in the Superior Court of California County of San Francisco against Uber Technologies, Inc, Rasier LLC, Rasier-CA, LLC, Gebrele Abebe Amare, and Does 1-50 for negligent hiring, supervision and retention; negligence; intentional misrepresentation; fraud; concealment; false promise; negligent misrepresentation; battery; sexual battery; assault; intentional infliction of emotional distress; negligent infliction of emotional distress; and gender violations.

According to the complaint, on May 2, 2019, Jane Doe was held against her will and sexually assaulted and battered by Uber driver Gebrele Abebe Amare and the incident happened while Amare was transporting Jane Doe to her place of employment in Oakland. Jane Doe believes Amare was acting as an employee and/or agent for Uber Technologies, Inc., Rasier, LLC, and Rasier-CA, LLC and he was acting within the course and scope of his employment and/or agency.  

Jane Doe seeks economic damages, non-economic damages, attorney's fees and costs for suit, pre and post-judgement interest, punitive and exemplary damages, damages under the Ralph Act and any other relief the court allows. Jane Doe is represented by Andje M. Medina of Altair Law LLP.
