A class action lawsuit has been filed against a major electronics distributor, accusing the company of a range of labor law violations. The complaint, lodged by Anita Ratra on March 6, 2025, in the Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara, targets Avnet, Inc., alleging failure to pay wages and other infractions affecting hourly non-exempt employees.

The lawsuit accuses Avnet, Inc. of multiple violations under California's Labor Code and Business and Professions Code. Anita Ratra claims that Avnet failed to compensate employees for all hours worked at minimum wage and overtime rates as required by law. "Defendants employed policies that resulted in their failure to authorize or permit meal periods," states the complaint, highlighting systemic issues such as automatic deductions for breaks not taken and improper calculation of overtime pay. These practices allegedly contravene several sections of the Labor Code, including sections 1194 and 1197 concerning minimum wage payments, section 510 regarding overtime compensation, and section 226 related to accurate wage statements.

Ratra's legal team argues that these practices have led to significant financial losses for affected employees who were not compensated for all hours worked or provided with accurate wage statements. Furthermore, they claim that Avnet’s actions amount to unfair business practices under California Business and Professions Code sections 17200 et seq., which prohibits unlawful business acts or practices.

The plaintiff seeks various forms of relief from the court. This includes unpaid wages with interest, statutory penalties for each violation per employee up to $4,000 as stipulated under Labor Code section 226(e), continuation wages under section 203 for failure to timely pay final wages upon employment termination, and attorney fees. Additionally, Ratra is requesting injunctive relief to prevent further violations by Avnet.

Representing Anita Ratra are attorneys Joseph Lavi, Vincent C. Granberry, Jeffrey D. Klein, and J. Jason Hill from Lavi & Ebrahimian LLP based in Beverly Hills. The case is being reviewed by Judge J. Nguyen under Case No.: 25CV460507.
