Brian Jones, a member of the California State Senate, said that gas prices in the state are $1.55 higher than the national average due to high taxes, costly regulations, and market interference by Democratic lawmakers. Jones made this statement on X on March 19.

"Greedy Gavin Newsom and Democrat lawmakers are price gouging us," said Jones. "Our SB 2 to repeal their 65 cent gas price hike is up for hearing. I'm hoping the Committee does the right thing. Gives Californians much needed relief at the pump."

According to Choose Energy, as of March 4, California drivers faced the nation's highest gasoline prices, averaging $4.77 per gallon. This marked a 30-cent increase from the previous month and stood 53.9% higher than the national average.

Bankrate reports that full coverage car insurance in California costs an average of $2,935 per year, which is higher than the national average of $2,678. Drivers in Los Angeles pay even more, averaging $3,997 annually, which is 36% above the state average. Additionally, a DUI conviction can significantly impact rates, with affected drivers paying an average of $7,315 per year—a 149% increase over the state average.

Property Casualty 360 has identified legal system abuses as contributors to rising insurance premiums in California. The state's legal environment allows for increased litigation costs that are passed on to consumers. Rampant legal system abuse, including excessive lawsuits and inflated settlements, has driven up insurance costs.

According to his website, Jones is the Senate Minority Leader for the California Senate Republican Caucus and represents California’s 40th Senate District. Throughout his career, he has focused on reducing the cost of living, addressing homelessness, tackling rising crime, and supporting veterans while also serving on key legislative committees.
